Onion Plants

Onion plants are generally used to grow the larger bulbs although
they can be used for green onions. Most varieties grow quite
large and are usually sweeter than what you grow from sets.
The secret to growing huge onions, both from plants or sets is
plant shallow and do not hill any soil around the growing bulb.
Grow them practically on top of the ground. If you want to harvest
green onions, plant deeper. Both sets and plants can be planted
from late March-April in Ohio and northern states. Plant in early
March further south. Store onion plants in a cool, dry place and
loosen bundles. They can be stored in a refrigerator.
